About the Author

Nicole is a midlife woman and foster mommy who knows what it means to live with wholehearted purpose — and what it feels like when that purpose shifts.

For decades, she served as a devoted social worker, walking alongside at-risk families, women, and children as they moved from brokenness to healing, from dependency to independence. Her life’s work was rooted in empowerment — helping others become whole, self-sufficient, and confident in their ability to rebuild.

Then retirement came.

Still young. Still filled with love. Still wired for impact.

But suddenly, without a clear place to pour it.

What happens when the career that defined your rhythm, your identity, and your daily “yes” ends — and the next chapter feels unclear?

In the standstill space of midlife, Nicole found herself meandering — both literally and figuratively. One ordinary afternoon at a local farmers' market, she stumbled upon a pet rescue event. In that pause — that sacred, unplanned pause — she prayed for clarity and courage. She didn’t receive a five-year plan.

She received a “yes.”

A tiny white rescue terrier poodle, Noelle became her first brave yes in the messy middle of midlife. Nicole rescued Noelle on February 14, the gotcha day of love, a furever valentine. That simple act of love filled an empty space in her heart and reminded her that purpose doesn’t always arrive as a title.

Foster Mom

Being a foster mom has given me a deeply personal understanding of patience, empathy, resilience, and unconditional support. Caring for children and families has taught me the importance of creating safe, supportive spaces where people feel heard, valued, and encouraged to grow through life’s challenges.
